Machu Picchu? Alpaca my bags.

Your lungs slowly fill with chilly mountain air, your eyes are softly focussing on the shimmering light bouncing off Lake Titicaca’s icy blue waters. As you exhale you open your palms and release. You feel taller as you stand firmly rooted in Tadasana, mountain pose.

With your InSynergy friends around you (in your most uniquely located yoga class yet!), you feel supported. You didn’t realise how much you needed this moment of stillness, to come home to yourself, to stop the distractions and simply listen.

After the ancient ceremony at the mysteriously sacred portal of Amara Muro, you have felt a heightening in your senses, a buzz in your finger tips and an elevated sense of excitement in your heart. Your introduction to Perúvian shamanism has lit a spark inside you where you didn’t know it was dark. A connection sprouts, one of ancient wisdom, of mind-body communication, of nurturing healing from the earth.

You don’t fully understand it yet, but you welcome it and await its beautiful bloom. The snow-capped Andean mountains wrap around you and your guide’s soft voice brings you back as you enjoy your next healing breath.

Every night’s accommodation on your Perúvian Discovery Retreat will be organised for you. You can expect a combination of traditional hotels, boutique bed and breakfasts, and modern resorts too. The standard of the accommodation ranges from 3-star to 5-star ratings. We have carefully picked locally owned, comfortable accommodations that are known for high standards and are ideally located on our adventure route.

The Cuisine

During our Perúvian Discovery Retreat you will also be experiencing Perú’s legendary culinary scene which has become a true gastronomic pioneer in recent years. The diversity in Perú’s ecosystems and micro-climates, from mountains to coast, offers a mouth-watering array of accessible fresh local ingredients to fuel Perúvian recipes. Its culinary roots of Incan, European, African, Chinese and Japanese influences create unique fusions that you will never forget. From fresh fish dishes, to meat-lover’s feasts, and plant-based treats too, there’s something for everyone.

Fresh Ceviche is one of the flavours your taste buds can look forward to – Perú’s iconic dish! Beautifully simple and fresh. Raw white fish marries lime juice, onions and chilli peppers with a sprinkle of salt. You can look for this refreshing dish anywhere from street vendors to the fanciest of restaurants. (Plant-based ceviches are often available, substituting the fish for a tender fruit or vegetable).

A treat for meat-eaters is Lomo Saltado – a stir-fried beef dish which nods to Perú’s Asian culinary influences. Marinated beef fried in the wok with thick slices of onions, tomatoes, and aji chilies. Or, feel the Amazon influences of Juane – a superb combination of rice, meat, eggs, olives and unique Amazonian herbs and spices all wrapped in jungle leaves and cooked in a clay pot! Aji de gallina and rocoto relleno are also traditional Perúvian dishes that should be on every meat lover’s radar!

There are plenty of traditional Perúvian dishes that are vegan and vegetarian too! Pachamanca Vegetables cooked in an earthen pot, Lima Bean Hummus whipped to perfection, Papa a La Huancaina – potatoes in a delectably spicy peppery cheese sauce, and even the enticingly exotic Mango Ceviche, just to name a few!

During your retreat most of your meals will be provided for you. But, if wandering through enchanting streets to choose the restaurant that most aligns with your taste buds is more your thing, you’ll also have the opportunity to enjoy doing that in several of the Perúvian towns we visit.

InSynergy will cater to your dietary needs with vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options. If you have specific requirements, please let us know. Bottle water will be available throughout each day too.

You had me at Fresh Perúvian Ceviche!

Perú is on my bucket list…

Your Insynergy Facilitators and Guide

DR. MISHA HALDERSON
PT, DPT, Cert. DN, CCT, RYT-200

While I’m a Physiotherapist and a certified Yoga Teacher, I’m also a travel enthusiast, retreat leader and entrepreneur. Most recently I offered a retreat to my home country of Zambia. Whilst on safari we were immersed deeply in nature which was life-changing for me. It gave me time to breathe, open my heart even wider, and go even deeper towards my true calling.

Planning a retreat to Perú has been something I have been wanting to offer for several years after watching an episode of the show Ancient Aliens. The allure of this ancient land beckoned to me, promising a unique blend of spiritual growth, self-reflection, and a connection with nature.

My interest continued to develop and as I researched about Perú, I knew offering this transformative journey wasn’t merely about sightseeing; it was going to be an opportunity to allow us to dive deep into the soul of a nation. It was going to be about understanding the resilience of its people, their connection to the land, and the fusion of ancient and modern traditions.

The adventure awaits – join us as we create memories that will echo through the corridors of time.

BECKY

I was first drawn to Perú after reading a dusty travel magazine in a bookshop. The cover was a photograph of Machu Picchu and a friendly Perúvian woman in colourful traditional clothing staring right at me. After reading more about the country, its traditions and the energetic connection with the earth its people have, I was intensely curious and even at a young age felt called to be there. Perú was my new goal, but the path to get there became long and winding. Life had a few other detour chapters in store for me first. For a time, I thought I was just delaying a dream, running behind, but now I see it as universal timing. Now is the right time to experience this journey! It was always meant to be now – with you! I can unpack that old magazine, and the now dog-eared Perúvian map I bought to accompany it, and follow my curiosity all the way to the Andes.

I currently live in Virginia Beach but am originally from England. I enjoy walking the beach with my daughter – no matter the weather, being surrounded by animals, pausing in nature, rolling out my mat in yoga, and cooking up adventures with my friends and family to explore new (and sometimes obscure!) places.

So fellow curious-hearted voyagers, I look forward to seeing you in Lima on your Perúvian Discovery Retreat! I’ll have a Pisco Sour ready for an introductory cheers!

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this retreat for me?

This retreat is perfect for you if you are an active person ready to get out for an amazing adventure with like-minded people.  We will experience most places by bus, train, boat and hiking in a high-altitude environment and you can expect yoga and meditation practices along the way. You don’t need any yoga experience, just an open mind, open heart, and a reasonably good fitness level.

This trip may not be right for you if you have conditions or injuries that limit your ability to participate in these kinds of activities as many locations do not have alternate points of access.  Please consult with your physician to make sure these activities are safe for your body.  We will make every effort to accommodate your needs.

Where do I fly to?

Please plan to arrive and depart from Jorge Chavez International Airport (LIM), Lima, Perú.

Please book your flights as follows:

Arriving at Jorge Chavez International Airport (LIM), Lima, Perú on September 30, 2024 before midnight.  Transportation has been set up so we can pick you up and bring you to the hotel to have a good night’s sleep.

Departing from Jorge Chavez International Airport (LIM), Lima, Perú on October 12, 2024 after 8:00 pm. We have scheduled transportation to bring you to the airport a little after 5:00 PM.

You may plan to arrive early or depart later from Perú, for more adventures at your own expense and arrangement. Feel free to connect with Trinity Dias, our travel concierge at [email protected] for help with additional arrangements and other details.

I need a roommate – how do I arrange that?

If you would like to be matched with a roommate, please let us know, and we’ll do our best to pair you with someone else who is also seeking a roommate. Then you’ll have a chance to meet and get to know your fellow traveller during our pre-trip online gatherings.

In case there is no one to pair you with, your room will be considered a single, and an additional single-occupancy supplement will be added to your retreat fee.

Do I need travel insurance?

Is it required? No.  Do we strongly, strongly recommend it? Absolutely, positively YES. This trip is costly and you never know what can happen to you preventing you from travelling and losing your investment. We always recommend travel insurance that includes trip cancellation and medical coverage. Be sure to read the fine print, as policies can differ greatly.

While you’re at it, be sure to confirm with your travel insurance provider what COVID-related issues are covered and to what extent.  To learn more about the different types of policies that you can purchase through Travel Guard, please view the Travel Guard Policy Comparison Chart. If you have any questions about obtaining travel insurance, looking to get a quote, or looking to book Travel Guard Insurance don’t hesitate to contact our travel concierge, Trinity Dias at [email protected].

Is there transportation from the airport to the hotel?

Yes, transportation will meet you at Lima airport when your flight lands and will take you to the retreat centre together after you have gathered your bags. The departure time may vary per person arriving in Lima. If you miss the transportation service (ending at midnight), we will arrange for private transportation for an additional fee.

Can you accommodate dietary restrictions?

Please be sure to note your specific dietary requirements on your registration form so that we can work with our local chef and restaurants to make sure we can accommodate your needs. If you do not inform us of your dietary restrictions during the booking process, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to accommodate you once we are in the country.

Is it safe to travel to Perú?

Most parts of Perú are considered safe, and the people are very friendly; however, crime does happen in all parts of the world so you should always exercise caution to avoid getting into a situation where you may be a target for pick pocketing, robbery or assault.

What are the vaccination requirements?

Please consult with your doctor for recommended vaccinations based on your medical and vaccination history.

What is the weather like?

The sacred valley has two seasons, wet (summer months) and dry (winter months) but overall, it’s very mild year round.  We are travelling during the dry season and can expect warm temperatures during the day and colder temperatures in the early morning and after sunset.  Layering is key so please see the packing list for more details on what to bring.  Even though it’s the dry season mountain weather can be unpredictable, and rain can pop up at any time.  Expect damp conditions in the cloud forest area.

What do I pack?

When you start packing for this incredible adventure, leave behind the attire that cradles formality and instead, embrace the freedom of comfort and practicality. This journey beckons for clothes that move with you, that breathe with the wind, and that carry the spirit of adventure.

Think layers as you plan what to bring. Mornings and evenings can be cool, while the days can easily become tee shirt weather. Dressing in layers is also a good way to protect yourself from the sun since you will be at altitude. Once you decide to join us, we’ll provide a more detailed list of what to bring and what not to bring.

Can you share EXACTLY what we're doing every day?

The detailed schedule will be sent to you 45 days before the trip so that we can go over it on our Zoom call. Rest assured, every day will be a magical experience for all of us, so keep your heart and mind open to the experience life brings us.  However, be prepared for unexpected twists; weather, rugged roads, and unforeseen hurdles might prompt us to adjust our plans, but fear not – the journey remains as thrilling and transformative as ever.

I’m ready to discover Perú!
